US Gold
History
Many of US Gold's earliest titles were already available in the UK, imported by shops like Calisto Computers via Centresoft, US Gold's parent company. Six months after US Gold was formed on 12th March 1984, a 50% stake in the company was sold to Jon Woods and David Ward of Ocean Software.
In late 1985 they took control of the Ultimate Play The Game label for several years, releasing a number of disappointing new titles and a lot of compilations exploiting the back-catalogue.
US Gold's first budget label was Americana Software. Later releases were handled by Mastertronic, before the label was taken back in-house and relaunched in August 1988 as Kixx.
Their biggest hits came from their arcade conversions with Gauntlet and Out Run taking the Christmas Number One position for two years running. They also had what is regarded as one of the most notorious number one hits with World Cup Carnival - a slightly modified version of Artic Computing's 1984 hit World Cup Football.
