Data East
History
One of Data East's best known titles was Karate Champ which influenced Yie Ar Kung-Fu and The Way of the Exploding Fist. The company also thought System 3's International Karate was far too similar and filed a lawsuit against Epyx, the game's US publisher, preventing the distribution of the title until the decision was overturned by the United States Court of Appeals in 1988.
Data East also produced the arcade version of RoboCop, although unusually the game was licensed from Ocean Software rather than the other way round.
